Study on Antioxidant and Uric Acid-Lowering Effects of Cornus officinalis Aqueous Extract

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the antioxidant and uric acid-lowering effects of Cornus offcinalis aqueous extract (CAE). Method: In vitro experiments were performed to evaluate the scavenging capacity of CAE against ABTS+ and DPPH free radicals,as wellas its inhibitory effect on xanthine oxidase (XOD)activity. Additionaly a hyperuricemia HepG2 cell model was established to assesstheuric acid-lowering eficacyofCAE.Result: The halfmaximal inhibitory concentrations of CAE for ABTS+, DPPH, and XOD were 0.19, 0.50, 0.43mg?mL-1 ,respectively. In the HepG2 cell model, CAE significantly inhibited XOD activity ( p<0.01 ).Conclusion: As a substance with both antioxidant and uric acid-lowering activities,CAE shows potential application value in the development of functional foods.
