Abstract: The paper takes the course Fundamental Principles of Concrete Structures as an example and conducts an exploration and practice of course teaching reform based on competency-based objectives. Employing a backward teaching design and aligning with professional and competency development objectives, the study establishes three levels of course teaching objectives and restructures the teaching content into four modules. Building on modular teaching, various innovative teaching methods are implemented, including exploring ideological and political education in the curriculum to foster moral character; using engineering as a link to effectively connect key knowledge points; employing group-based project research, innovation and entrepreneurship training, discipline competitions, and research activities to enhance students' comprehensive qualities; utilizing information technology to improve learning efficiency. Furthermore, a comprehensive assessment system is constructed to ensure the achievement of course teaching objectives. Teaching practice demonstrates that the innovative reform of this course effectively enhances the quality and effectiveness of course teaching, providing valuable reference for achieving talent development objectives in knowledge, quality, and capability. It also offers beneficial insights for the construction of new engineering disciplines in universities and the cultivation of students' comprehensive abilities.
