Abstract: In response to the evolving demands for applied statistics professionals in the era of big data, timely adjustments to the Professional Master of Applied Statistics(PMAS) education system are essential. Such adjustments can facilitate proactive and precise alignment with industry needs, ultimately improving the quality of education. This study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining online surveys and in-depth interviews, to collect data from 221 job postings in the statistics field and interview materials from 46 participants. These participants include eight frontline faculty members engaged in PMAS education at universities, twelve corporate HR managers involved in PMAS graduate recruitment, and twenty-six recent graduates. Based on these empirical data, the study systematically examines and summarizes the current demand, core qualifications, and skill requirements for applied statistics positions in the context of big data, identifying key characteristics of labor market expectations. Furthermore, the paper analyzes the common shortcomings in PMAS talent cultivation in universities today. Finally, with the goal of enhancing the relevance and responsiveness of PMAS education, the study proposes targeted strategies and recommendations.
