Study on screening cold-tolerant germplasm resources of melon at germination stage

Abstract:Toestablishanefficientscreening methodforcoldtolerance inmelonandrapidlyidentify/utilizecold-tolerant germplasmresources,this study firstused7melonaccessions with differentcold temperature tolerance,anddetermined 17°C as the optimal temperature forlow temperature screening during the germination stage.Subsequently,268 melon accessionswere evaluated at 17°C toidentify extreme cold-tolerant and cold-sensitive materials.Further analysis selected fivehighlytolerantandfivehighlysensitive materials todeterminetheirphotosyntheticrate.Theresultsshowedthatthe accessions with strong cold tolerance during germination maintained higher photosynthetic rate under low-temperature stres.Thisstudyultimatelyidentified1lhighlycold-tolerantaccessionssuitablefordirectorindirectuseinlow-temperature tolerance breeding.
