Determination and Analysis of Multi-Element Content in Commercially Available Lycium ruthenicum Murr.

Abstract: Objective: To determine 21 elements in commercially available Lycium ruthenicum Murr. using ICP-OES/MS technology, reveal its elemental composition diferences compared withred wolfbery,and evaluate the nutritional value and heavy metal contamination risks of Lycium ruthenicum Murr. from different purchasing channels.Method: Lycium ruthenicum Murr. and red wolfberry samples were collcted from three purchasing channels (ofline herbal stores,stret vendors,and e-commerce platforms). After microwave digestion pretreatment, 21 elements were quantified by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES)and inductively coupled plasma massspectrometry(ICP-MS).Specifically ICP-OES measured 16 macro/micro elements (Al,B,Ba, Ca,F(xiàn)e,K,Mg),hileIC-Manalyzed9traceheavymetalsandhazardous elements (Cr,As,Cd,Pb).Result:Sgicant quality discrepancies were observed among Lycium ruthenicum Mur. samples from diferent channels, particularly in nutritional elements.Atention should alsobepaid to thecontentofheavymetal elements (suchasCd)andbealert to potential hidden qualityandsafetyrisks.Conclusion:The diferenceofthecontentofeach elementin Lycium ruthenicum Mur.mayberelated tothedifferentenrichmentcharacteristicsof thesaline alkalisoilenvironment inwhich it grows,and the quality of Lycium ruthenicum Murr. varies greatly with different purchase channels.
