The Impact of Smartphone Dependence on Cognitive Failure in College Students： The Mediating Role of Fear of Missing Out and the Moderating Role of Negative Emotions

Abstract：Thisstudyinvestigatestheimpactofsmartphonedependenceoncognitivfailureamong2，O24undergraduatestudentstJi linNormalUniversityfocusingonthemeditingroleoffearofmisingout（FoMO）andthemoderatingroleofnegativeemotionsData werecollectedthroughquestionairesusingtheSmartphone DependencyIndex，F(xiàn)oMOScale，CogniveFailureScale，andDepression Anxiety -， StressSelf-ReportScale.Resultsshowasignificantpositivecorelationbetweensmartphonedependenceandcognitivefailure（ β= 0.85），with FoMO partially mediating this relationship （ 19.23% mediation efect）.Negative emotions significantly moderated the association （ β=-0.01 ），weakening thedetrimental impactofFoMOunder high distress.Subgroupanalysesrevealed stronger efectsamong femalestudents，arts，sports，andmusicmajors，andjuniors.TefindingssugestthatniversitiesshouldtailorinterventionstargetingF MOandemotioalregulatiotomtigatecogntiveimpaimentcausedbysmartphoneoveruseoferingempiricalsupportformentalhalth education of college students in the digital age.
