Study on Seepage and Stability of Cut Slopes in Yellow Clay Soil

Abstract: [Purposes] Rainwater seepage within the soil cut slope is the primary cause of slope stability. The cut slope of yelow clay soil is selected as the main research object to investigate the impact of rainwater on the stability of the cut slope.[Methods] Based on Darcy's law,the seepage characteristics of rainwater within the cut slope of yelow clay soil were simulated.According to the seepage behavior,the variation patern of the slop stabilityof yellow clay soil during rainwater infiltration was analyzed.[Findings] With the infiltration ofrainfall,an upward-swirling zone gradually forms at the toeof the first-level slope of the cutting cut slope in yellow clay soil,and water accumulation occurs at the the first-level slope toe platform. Under the combined effects of rainwater flow paths and pore water pressure,the safety factor of the yelow clay soil slope gradually decreases as rainwater infiltration increases.After the infiltration of rainwater stops,the safety factor shows a gradual partial recovery.[Conclusions] The research results can provide valuable reference for the safety protection of soil cut slopes.
