Design of Cooling System for Composite Power Battery Based on Liquid Cooling and Phase Change Materials

Abstract: [Purposes] To better control the power battery temperature and improve the temperature uniformity of the battery module,this study designs a composite power battery cooling system composed of liquid cooling and phase change materials.[Methods] By adding phase change materials between the batteries in the liquid cooling system battery module,the cooling efect can be improved.Meanwhile,Ansys was used to analyze the influence of diffrent factors on the cooling system of the composite power battery.[Findings] The results indicate that compared to standalone liquid cooling and PCM-only cooling systems,the composite power battry cooling system composed of liquid cooling and PCM can better control the maximum temperature,minimum temperature,and temperature difference of the power battery module.The maximum temperature of the power batery increases with the cooling water flow rate in the cooling plate,with a gradually diminishing rate of increase.Since the liquid phase ratio of PCM between power batteries increases with PCM thickness at the same discharge rate,the maximum temperature of the power battery module decreases with increasing of PCM thickness,but there is an optimal range for

PCM thickness.[Conclusions] The research results can provide reference for the design of multimechanism coupled power battery cooling systems.
