Abstract: Toexplorethe palynologicalcharacteristicsof Ncotiana andits taxonomic significane,we examiedpollnmorphology of36wild species and4cultivated varieties using scaning electron microscopyand investigated their taxonomicrelationships throughclusteraalysis.Teresultsevealedthatall4accessionsexibited monad,isopolarplengrainswithtricolpateor tetracolporate apertures, displaying spherical to prolate shapes [P/E=1.66(0.99-2.16)] and measuring 39.96 (26.55-58.08) μm×24.28 (17.83–33.79) μm Seven exine ormamentation types were identified, including verrucate, verrucate-rugulate,rugulate, rugulatestriate,strate,triateeticulate,ndeticlate,amongichtestratetype asthemostprevaent,andmostspecisebitedeine perforations.PolensizeandexineomamentationwereidentifiedasthekeydiagnosticcharacteristicsforNicotianapollen diferentiation.Clusteranalysisbasedoncharacteristic values clasifiedthe40taxaintothreegroupsatasimilaritycoeffcientof 15.73.Thecusteringresultsofixsctions (icotianst.Nicotiaa,icotiansct.Paniculatae,NicotianasctPetides, Nicotian sect.Repandae,Nicotianasect.Tomentosae,andNicotianasect.Trigonophylae)wereconsistent withtheKnapp taxonomicsystem.Thepalyologicalresultsprovidesignificantcoroborativeevidenceforthe taxonomic studyofNicotian,with the classification results generally supporting findings from molecular systematic research.
