Pollen Morphology of 40 Germplasm Resources of Nicotiana and Its Taxonomic Significance

Abstract： Toexplorethe palynologicalcharacteristicsof Ncotiana andits taxonomic significane，we examiedpollnmorphology of36wild species and4cultivated varieties using scaning electron microscopyand investigated their taxonomicrelationships throughclusteraalysis.Teresultsevealedthatall4accessionsexibited monad，isopolarplengrainswithtricolpateor tetracolporate apertures， displaying spherical to prolate shapes [P/E=1.66（0.99-2.16）] and measuring 39.96 （26.55-58.08） μm×24.28 （17.83–33.79） μm Seven exine ormamentation types were identified， including verrucate， verrucate-rugulate，rugulate， rugulatestriate，strate，triateeticulate，ndeticlate，amongichtestratetype asthemostprevaent，andmostspecisebitedeine perforations.PolensizeandexineomamentationwereidentifiedasthekeydiagnosticcharacteristicsforNicotianapollen diferentiation.Clusteranalysisbasedoncharacteristic values clasifiedthe40taxaintothreegroupsatasimilaritycoeffcientof 15.73.Thecusteringresultsofixsctions （icotianst.Nicotiaa，icotiansct.Paniculatae，NicotianasctPetides， Nicotian sect.Repandae，Nicotianasect.Tomentosae，andNicotianasect.Trigonophylae）wereconsistent withtheKnapp taxonomicsystem.Thepalyologicalresultsprovidesignificantcoroborativeevidenceforthe taxonomic studyofNicotian，with the classification results generally supporting findings from molecular systematic research.
