An Exploratory Study of the Impact of Demotivators on Interpreting Learners

Abstract: Based on interviews and reflective essays, this paper adopts questionnaires to explore the impact of demotivators on 129 interpreting postgraduates from two universities. The research finds that: 1) demotivation exists in the learning process of interpreting students due to such demotivators as career intentions,learmers,teachers,society,and the learning environment.The career intentions related factors produce the most significant demotivation impact on interpreting learners.2) The influence of interpreting learning demotivators varies across grades;the impact of career intentions related demotivator increases year by year. This study serves as a reference for future research on interpreting learning demotivation and is of great significance to the theory and practice of interpreting pedagogy.
