Abstract: The translator’s cultural identity is the translator’s firm belief in his orher mother tongue culture and is constructed based on one’s values. In translation practice,it isreflected in the translator’ s understanding of culture, internalized as one's afiliation with culture, and manifested as transmission of culture. At the intersection of Chinese and Western cultures,Ku Hungming regards the English translation of Lunyu as his mission and responsibility to disseminate and promote Chinese culture. His cultural identity is embodied in the folowing three aspects. Firstly,he guides English readers through his understanding of Chinese culture to correctly understand Confucianism. Secondly, given the needs of the English readers,Ku helps them to have a spiritual resonance and a sense of identification with Chinese culture by means of domestication. Finaly,by expanding the meaning of the text, adding annotations, and introducing Western classic quotations,he leads readers to experience the essence and spirit of Confucianism in the integration of traditional and modern culture, and in the interaction between local culture and foreign culture, thus spreading Chinese culture to the Western world in a special manner.
