Steel wire rope breakage detection method based on magnetic field gradient and energy method

Abstract: The breakage of wire ropes poses a significant threat to the proper functioning and safety of mechanical equipment. The existing self magnetic leakage detection technology has the advantage of not requiring excitation,but it has the influence of environmental magnetic field. A wire rope breakage detection technique is proposed utilizing magnetic gradient tensors and energy methods and the weak magnetic test system of steel wire rope breaking is developed.The experimental results show that as the wire rope breaks, the inflection point of crest and trough appears in the magnetic gradient B?Txz and B?Tyz curves, and the wave peak appears in the BTzz curve.When 3,6,9,12,17,22,25 and 30 wires are broken,compared with the actual position of broken wires and position judged by the abrupt change of magnetic field gradient curve the maximum error, minimum error, average error and standard deviation of error are 5.36% 2 2.26% , 3.57% and

1.22% , respectively. The position of broken wire judged by the magnetic gradient tensor is basically consistent with the actual position of broken wire. With the increase of the number of broken wires,the trough depth, peak height, trough and peak's width of the magnetic field gradient curve increase.The energy of the magnetic gradient in the broken region of the wire rope increases proportionaly with the number of broken wires.The detection method, which is based on the magnetic field gradient and energy,has been tested and proven to be both feasible and effective.
