Fatigue design of mounting seat in cowcatcher of power concentrated EMU based on topology optimization

Abstract: Based on variable density method,the mounting seat in cowcatcher of power concentrated electric multipleunits(EMU)is topologically optimized.The optimal topology of the mounting seat in cowcatcher is determined.The model of the optimized mounting seat in cowcatcher is re-built as finite element model. The load cases are established according to TJ/JW 102—2017 standard. The maximum stresses of the mounting seat in cowcatcher before and after optimization are compared by computations. The results show that the maximum stress after optimization is 40.32% lower than before optimization, and the stress distribution becomes more uniform after optimization. The load cases of fatigue are established according to TB/T3548—2019 standard.FAT90 curve is then used for the fatigue evaluation of the weld in the mounting seat of cowcatcher. The fatigue comparison shows that the fatigue life is obviously increased after optimization design. The optimized structure is finally applied and used in FXD3-J power concentrated EMU.
